OUR PHILOSOPHY: IT’S EITHER RIGHT OR IT’S WRONG. THERE IS NO “THAT WILL DO”. IF YOU MAKE A MISTAKE, JUST PUT IT RIGHT! THEN EVERYONE IS HAPPY.
Our director, Robert Whitehouse, is Passive Trades Certified and has a passion for providing Cantabrians with Energy Efficient builds that work. Alongside Robert, we complete our Passive House team with our Certified Passive House Architectural Designer.
The Passive House Planning Package software is key to ensuring your Passive build works before we start construction. Our designers calculate how much heat loss you can expect with your build and identify areas where improvements can be made.
We are living in a period of continuous innovation. There are always new alternatives and better ways to build – our team ensures we’re always up to date with the latest methods and attend Passive House Conferences all over the world.
Our in house build teams are also trained frequently. We ensure they are installing all components of your build to the highest standard. Passive build techniques are just as important as calculating your design. According to the Passive House Institute, the biggest failing of Passive Homes world wide is the installer / builder not understanding the details on the Architects plans.
The certification failure rate of Passive Homes worldwide is 85% this is why we train and ensure our builders and subcontractors understand Passive Build Techniques. We want to safe guard your investment.
When starting the design of your Passive / Energy Efficient build our team first look at the orientation of your site. It is important that your build is designed in such a way that solar energy is maximised without overheating your home. The idea is to reduce direct sunlight into your home during the Summer as much as possible. In the Winter, we want as much sunshine (Passive energy) as we can get into the house.
Your floor plan is key to creating a high functioning Energy Efficient / Passive build. Passive and Energy Efficient homes work on the principle of air volume to surface area. The perfect shape for a Passive Home would be a sphere (we live on one, but we can’t live IN one) – we can live in a well designed, attractive home that uses these principles and is built for your surrounding elements.
5 PASSIVE HOUSE PRINCIPLES
Whether you’re building a full Passive Home or aiming to be Energy Efficient, the 5 Passive House Principles are always considered through every process of your build.
The Principles sound easy, but are hard to achieve. You have to have experience and know what you are doing.
